From Oct. 9 to 31, 2026, ChatGPT put at least one phone number in 92.5% of US home-service answers in the Cheers Market Baseline. Google AI Mode linked a booking page in 29.3%, and nearly 9 in 10 of its Housecall Pro booking links went to businesses on that answer's map cards. For multi-location operators, the phone number and booking page are separate checks, and the booking page mostly helps branches already on the cards.
Last verified: November 1, 2026.
The Cheers Market Baseline is our research panel: every week it asks ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini the same 32 home-service questions in 60 US and 40 Canadian metro areas.
What each engine gave the customer
Cheers Market Baseline, US answers
ChatGPT gives a phone number. AI Mode shows the map card, and a booking page in 3 in 10 answers
- At least one phone number in the answer text: ChatGPT 92.5% (5,835 of 6,307), AI Mode 11.1%
- Map or place cards shown: ChatGPT 78.2% (4,934), AI Mode 93.0% (5,865)
- Link to a booking or scheduling page: ChatGPT 0.1%, AI Mode 29.3% (1,847)
Cheers Market Baseline: 32 home-service questions in 60 US cities, 6,307 answers per engine, Oct. 9 to 31, 2026. Queried Nov. 1, 2026.
| What the answer gave the customer | ChatGPT | Google AI Mode |
|---|---|---|
| At least one phone number in the answer text | 92.5% | 11.1% |
| Map or place cards shown | 78.2% | 93% |
| Link to a booking or scheduling page | 0.1% | 29.3% |
AI Mode leaned on the map, showing map or place cards in 93.0% of US answers against 78.2% for ChatGPT. It wrote a phone number into the text of only 11.1%, but don't read that as AI Mode hiding the phone: each card leads to the business's Google listing, which has its own call button that we don't count.
ChatGPT's phone numbers jumped when its answers switched from running text to a block layout on the night of Oct. 8 to 9, a change Sistrix dated in an Oct. 30 report. From Oct. 2 to 8, only 12.6% of US ChatGPT answers had a phone number; that count is ours, not Sistrix's. Booking pages barely registered after the switch, 7 answers out of 6,307.
OpenAI's own Get Quote conversion spec, which describes a beta with approved partners, points the same way: it requires a phone number on every business record and says booking isn't required for a quote request.
Before you trust a number ChatGPT shows for your business, ask it about your trade in each branch's city, dial that number and see whose phone rings.
Google AI Mode booking links go to businesses on its map cards
Housecall Pro booking pages put the business's name in the web address, so we could check them; they appeared in 76.8% of AI Mode answers with any booking link. Matched against the map cards in the same answer, 86.9% of 1,879 such links from Oct. 9 to 31 went to a business on those cards, and 93.0% when the answer showed cards at all.

That held in each of the three weeks, between 85.9% and 88.4%, and it's a floor, since a booking page under a different name from its card counts as a miss.
The matched links didn't pile onto the top result, either: 23.9% went to the first card, about what an even spread across 4.21 cards per answer gives.
Build the branch's profile and booking route together. Most matched booking links belonged to businesses on the map cards, and the links were spread across those cards rather than concentrated on the first result. That work starts on each branch's Business Profile, and our AI Mode guide covers the ratings and reviews of the businesses AI Mode named.
The platform mix follows what cited businesses already run and isn't a software ranking: Jobber showed up in 0.4% of US AI Mode answers but 7.6% in our Canadian cities.
Google hasn't said where the links come from. Our inference: a map card is a Google listing, and Housecall Pro's help page, dated July 16, 2026, says its Book Online button appears on Google Search and Maps, so many of these links probably come from the listing's own booking link.
The share slid in the last week of October
On the 27 questions that ran every week, AI Mode linked a booking page in 32.7% of answers in the week of Oct. 5, 28.8% and 30.0% over the next two weeks, then 22.2% in the week of Oct. 26. Twenty of the 21 plumbing, HVAC, electrical and garage door questions that ran in both of the last two weeks came in lower, so it wasn't one or two questions dragging it down.
Our AI Mode guide reports 31.2% for September, but it pooled the US and Canada with a slightly different list of booking sites, so it isn't a point on this line.
Keep the date beside the figure and check the same questions in your markets each month. The late-October change makes ongoing checks useful.
Booking links show up in service-call trades, not replacement trades
Electrical answers linked a booking page 38.1% of the time, plumbing 36.6% and HVAC 29.0%. Garage door tops the chart at 41.7%, but 34 of its 75 booking-link answers cited one franchise's pages, and without them it drops to 30.6%. Past those four trades the share falls off fast: water damage restoration 14.4%, windows and doors 6.7%, lawn and landscaping 5.6%, roofing 3.3% and pest control 2.8%.

| Trade | Answers with a booking link |
|---|---|
| Garage door | 41.7% (180 answers, one question; 34 of its 75 booking-link answers cited one franchise's scheduling pages) |
| Electrical | 38.1% (1,080 answers) |

| Lawn and landscaping | 5.6% (180 answers, one question) |
| Roofing | 3.3% (360 answers) |

That gap should shape spend. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC and garage door branches should count the booking page as AI Mode work, alongside call handling, while roofers saw fewer recognized booking links in this sample.
In an emergency, AI Mode adds the phone number
AI Mode put a phone number in 32.6% of its urgent US answers across October, against 5.4% on planned-job questions like "best company for this job." The jump held inside each trade. In electrical, 53.2% of urgent answers had a number against 9.1% of the trade's other questions (US and Canadian cities, Oct. 9 to 31).
Booking links didn't move with it. Inside plumbing, HVAC and electrical, 33.6% of urgent answers linked a booking page, against 33.9% of the other answers in those trades.
So a third of emergency answers still point to a booking page, and that page has to work for someone whose basement is flooding. The phone jump needs its own test: after hours, call the number AI Mode shows for your branch on an urgent question and see who picks up.
Most competitor listings we scanned show no booking link
In weekly Cheers scans of 15,795 competitor listings in Google's local map results (Sept. 28 to Oct. 31, 2026), 9.4% showed a booking link and 80.9% a website link, so in the markets we scanned, a customer who wants to book from the listing usually can't.
A separate Nov. 1, 2026 census of US home-service contractor homepages found 40.7% showing "book online" or "schedule service" text or booking software, and at least 12.0% loading a scheduler or online request form.
Does a booking link help a listing rank? At matched review counts, listings with one reached the top three more often in four weekly scans (Sept. 28 to Oct. 25, 2026), for example 52.8% against 41.1% at 100 to 249 reviews. Companies that bother to set up online booking may also be bigger and better run, so read it as correlation.
Google is connecting research to action
At I/O on May 19, 2026, Google announced broader agentic booking for local services and calls on a customer's behalf for categories including home repair. Its current AI Mode help page, checked November 2, describes researching home services, finding available slots, completing forms and calling businesses for details.
Prepare the paths those features use: accurate public information, a useful phone response and a booking page that works. Our October count measures booking links in answers; test the actual request and confirmation process separately for your branch.
What to fix first
What to fix for each engine
One list for the number, one for the card and the booking page
ChatGPT
At least one phone number in 92.5% of answers
- One main phone number per location, in the page text and a tel: link
- The same number on the location page ChatGPT links
- The same number on Angi, Yelp and the other directories ChatGPT cites
- Old tracking numbers still ringing the right branch
Google AI Mode
The map card, then a booking page in 29.3% of answers
- The branch on the map cards first; the booking page goes with the card
- A Book link on every verified Business Profile, owned by one system
- A booking page for that branch where the customer can finish
- Same-day slots or the emergency number at the top of that page
- Profile hours that match when the branch picks up the phone
Cheers Market Baseline, US answers, Oct. 9 to 31, 2026; Google Business Profile Help, 'Manage your local business links' and 'Business links policies and guidelines'. Pages read Nov. 1, 2026.
Start this week with the Book link, the cheapest thing to check and the easiest to have wrong without knowing. Open each location's Business Profile in Google Search and Maps, tap Book (or note that there isn't one) and write down where it goes: your own page, your scheduler or a third-party provider you never picked. Then start a booking from a phone; finish it only on your own scheduler, mark it as a test and cancel it, and don't complete one through a provider you didn't set up.
Next, decide which system owns the Book link on every profile and write that down. Google's help page on local business links says third-party providers' links can appear on a profile automatically, though you can remove them, and Housecall Pro says a preferred link will keep its Book Online button from appearing at all, so look at the profile again after you pick an owner.
Google's business links policy sets the rest: each location's action link has to point at a page for that location, on a verified profile, and let the customer finish the action.
If a Book button vanished or never showed up, this guide walks through each check, and the booking-workflow guide covers the scheduler setup and the CRM side. Running a roll-up? Put every location's Book destination and its owner in one sheet, so an acquired branch still pointing at its old scheduler turns up in a single pass.
After that, spend in this order:
- Cards before booking pages: a branch missing from AI Mode's map cards should fix its Business Profile first.
- One main phone number per location, in the page text and as a tap-to-call (tel:) link on the location page ChatGPT would link, and the same number on Angi, Yelp and the other directories ChatGPT cites; Angi or HomeAdvisor appeared among the sources of 69.4% of US ChatGPT answers that listed any in October. Keep old tracking numbers ringing the right branch, and decide which number ChatGPT should print; our call-tracking guide covers the tradeoff.
- Same-day slots or the emergency number at the top of each booking page, and profile hours that match when the branch picks up the phone.
- Roofing, pest control and window and door companies can leave the booking page for last, after a phone number that rings the right office and the proof AI repeats about roofers, such as warranties.
A booking page an assistant can link is also one an agent may try to fill in, so check the form labels and confirmation states too.
Then, once a month, ask ChatGPT and AI Mode one urgent and one planned-job question for your trade in your busiest markets, and log what each location got: a number in the text, a map card, a booking link or nothing. Before you buy another lead source, that log shows whether each branch makes AI Mode's cards and whether its contact path works.
Method
Unless a line says otherwise, figures come from the panel's 60 US cities, the smallest with about 300,000 people, so nothing here speaks for small towns. Each engine gave 6,307 US answers from Oct. 9 to 31, 2026, and 1,910 from Oct. 2 to 8. In the later window ChatGPT had a phone number in 5,835 answers and AI Mode a booking link in 1,847; map cards showed in 5,865 AI Mode and 4,934 ChatGPT answers. Jobber's Canadian share uses the 40 Canadian cities (4,200 AI Mode answers).
A phone number means a North American number pattern in the answer text; map cards in our data carry no phone field, so a card's call button isn't counted. A booking link means a cited link to Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, Jobber, Workiz or a handful of smaller scheduling platforms, or to a booking or scheduling subdomain. We didn't open the pages or try a booking.
For the card match we compared the business name in each Housecall Pro booking page's address with the names and website domains on the same answer's map cards, counting each page once per answer: 1,879 page links in 1,419 answers, 1,756 of them in the 1,324 answers with cards. ServiceTitan and Jobber pages use ID numbers, so they're left out. We checked 75 Oct. 9 to 15 pairs one at a time; all 30 sampled matches named the same business, and of the 45 non-matches in answers with cards, one was the carded business under a slightly different name and three more, all from one business, may have been, so the shares are slight undercounts.
Weekly figures use the same 27 questions, weeks starting Monday: 1,620 answers in the weeks of Oct. 5, 19 and 26, and 1,617 in the week of Oct. 12; AI Mode answers in the week of Oct. 26 carried about 3.0 links each, against 3.4 to 3.5 before. The urgent booking comparison uses six urgent questions (three plumbing, two HVAC, one electrical), 423 of 1,260 urgent answers against 1,284 of 3,787 others in those trades; the October phone comparison rests on about 1,620 urgent and 5,040 planned-job answers. Trade bases are 2,050 HVAC, 1,917 plumbing, 1,080 electrical, 360 roofing and 180 for each one-question trade, where gaps under about 7 points are noise.
Listing scans cover only markets where 10 Cheers home-service customers operate, so they aren't a national random sample. The homepage census read 1,096 US contractor websites drawn from Google's local map results, minus Cheers customers, as raw HTML without running scripts; 976 were readable, and its rates are floors. The two samples differ, and anything pairing a booking link with ranking is correlation, not cause.
