On Nov. 1, 2026, the Personal Agent Protocol's spec site listed 43 design partners for the standard Sierra and Meta are building so a customer's AI agent can deal with a company directly. OpenAI and Meta made the list. This is infrastructure for a future we believe in: a customer's personal assistant carrying work through directly with a business. Prepare your phone, quote form and booking link now, then build a direct connection around the tasks your branch can fulfill.
Last verified: November 1, 2026.
Sierra says that when agents can't finish a task online, "they may call the company's support line or open its web chat." Contractors already have that route, since 86.0% of the readable homepages we checked carried a tap-to-call link.
So start there this week. Call each location's main line as a customer who wants a price and the next opening, once after hours and once in a busy hour, or have someone your front desk won't recognize do it. Write down whether you got a price range, the trip or diagnostic fee and a time.
What the Personal Agent Protocol is, in plain English
Bret Taylor and Clay Bavor announced it on Sierra's blog on Oct. 6, 2026, and promised a v0.1 spec "later this month."
The protocol's home page and introduction break it into four moves. The company publishes a discovery file at /.well-known/poppy.json that says how to start a session and sign in. Until the customer signs in "on the company's own page through standard OAuth" and picks what the agent may see and do, the company sees only an ID with no personal information. Then the agent works through APIs, web pages or the company's own agent, and a company "can start with only a website, only APIs, or only an agent."
Personal Agent Protocol, Draft 0.3
How an agent works with a company under the draft spec
- 01Discovery
The company publishes a discovery file
A document at /.well-known/poppy.json names the company and says how an agent starts a session, signs a customer in and reaches its APIs or company agent.
- 02Session
The agent identifies itself
Until the customer signs in, the company sees only an ID with no personal information. The ID stays the same on each visit and differs at every company.
- 03Sign-in
The customer signs in on the company's own page
Through standard OAuth, choosing what the agent can see and do. The company decides what any agent may do before sign-in, such as searching rooms in the spec's hotel example.
- 04Work
The agent does the task
Through the company's APIs (OpenAPI or MCP), its web pages or its own company agent, in one session and within the access granted.

- How the Personal Agent Protocol draft connects an agent and a company, Draft 0.3
- 1. The company publishes a discovery file: A document at /.well-known/poppy.json names the company and says how an agent starts a session, signs a customer in and reaches its APIs or company agent.
- 2. The agent identifies itself: Until the customer signs in, the company sees only an ID with no personal information. The ID stays the same on each visit and differs at every company.
- 3. The customer signs in on the company's own page: Through standard OAuth, choosing what the agent can see and do. The company decides what any agent may do before sign-in, such as searching rooms in the spec's hotel example.
- 4. The agent does the task: Through the company's APIs (OpenAPI or MCP), its web pages or its own company agent, in one session and within the access granted.
It's a draft, and it's moving fast. In the public GitHub repository, the commits that froze version 0.1, published 0.2 and added Draft 0.3 are dated Oct. 18, Oct. 24 and Oct. 28, with no releases or tags. The Path to 1.0 page gives no date for 1.0 and warns that "until 1.0, a revision can break compatibility with earlier drafts." The draft doesn't describe phone calls.
Who is behind it
The Path to 1.0 page sorts its "Partners that have agreed to be listed" into three personal agents (Instinct, Meta and OpenAI), 21 companies such as Comcast, Hertz and Walmart, and 19 technology providers such as Sierra, Shopify and Stripe.
Nobody on the list makes field-service or home-service scheduling software, and no home-service marketplace or brand is listed, though the page names only partners that agreed to be named.

On the partner list
- Personal agents (3): Instinct, Meta and OpenAI
- Companies (21), among them Bank of America, Comcast, GEICO, Hertz, Target, United Airlines and Walmart
- Technology providers (19), among them Cloudflare, ElevenLabs, Genesys, NiCE, Shopify, Sierra, Stripe and Zendesk
- The spec's authors say they're working through implementations with several of them
What we found
Home services on the same day
- No field-service or home-service scheduler, marketplace or brand on the list
- None of 1,096 US home-service contractor websites had a protocol file of its own; 181 didn't give our check a clear answer
- One MCP server card, on a contractor site a marketplace builds, describing the marketplace's server
- Google said in August that Angi and Thumbtack would arrive as Gemini connected apps

Where home-service companies stand on it
Contractor-owned integrations are still early: we found no contractor-owned MCP server card, Personal Agent Protocol file or A2A agent card in the responses we could evaluate, the small files at fixed addresses that tell an agent how to connect. For the protocol file, 181 sites didn't give our check a clear answer, so those stay unknown. The one MCP server card we found, on a contractor site a marketplace builds, described the marketplace's server.
Meta's developer page says "a connector turns your existing API into tools Meta AI can call," but it's a developer preview that admits developers in waves, with examples in fitness, productivity, entertainment and smart home. When Muse reached Singapore, Meta's Oct. 27 newsroom post named eight early connector partners in shopping, groceries, dining and travel.
OpenAI's Get Quote spec is "currently in beta and being tested with approved partners" and covers quote requests only; how ChatGPT's Get Quote flow works explains who can appear in it. Google said in August that Angi and Thumbtack would arrive as Gemini connected apps. The emerging pattern is platform-led access. Ask the tools you already use how your branches will participate, and keep a direct route through your own website too.

How agents reach a home-service company meanwhile
Agents don't need the protocol to reach you. Muse's beta for calls to US businesses expanded on Sept. 16, 2026, and TechCrunch reported Google's test of Gemini Call for Me on Sept. 24. Google says Gemini starts every call by disclosing that it's an AI assistant from Google calling on a recorded line, and the call comes from the customer's own number.
Phone line
Gemini's help page says Call for Me can ask about hours, availability and "service quotes" and can book appointments. For now it's a US test on Pixel 11 phones. AI answers also hand out phone numbers: in the Cheers Market Baseline, 92.5% of US ChatGPT local answers from Oct. 9 to 31 carried at least one.
In each location's Business Profile settings, leave "Bookings and inquiries from customers" on wherever that location can answer price, availability and booking questions; Google ties that switch to calls it places for people using Search or Maps and doesn't mention Gemini Call for Me. Handling Google AI phone calls covers those settings and a branch script. Before you count agent calls, check which number each page shows; the call-tracking guide covers keeping one number consistent for people and machines.
One early call dataset provides a reference point: NextPhone, which sells AI receptionists, counted about 4 disclosed AI callers per 10,000 calls in September 2026; on phones it tracked all year, the rate went from 1.2 to 1.8. Those are floors, since a call counts only when the voice says it's AI, and NextPhone gives no home-services split. Use a branch-level log to measure adoption in your own market. The same clear response helps both assistants and people asking for a price.
Quote form
Meta's Muse launch post says Muse "can open a browser, fill out forms, and negotiate on their behalf," and Gemini in Chrome auto browse "aims to ask for your review and confirmation" before it submits one. On the contractor homepages we checked that had a form, a CAPTCHA script loaded on 30.9%.
Agents do reach forms. In Microsoft Clarity's study of 5.2 million agentic sessions from Aug. 13 to Sept. 9, 2026, 19.85% included a submit-form event, against 18.56% of human sessions. Those are Clarity customers' sites, not home-service data, and an event doesn't show a finished task.
TechCrunch reported complaints on social media that Muse couldn't complete purchases on Walmart's site, where an interrupted verify-you're-human button can get the agent "booted out," and Walmart said those failures "weren't intentional." Nobody we read documents how any spam check treats a consumer agent, and we didn't test it. The protocol's answer, added to Draft 0.3 on Oct. 30, is that a personal agent "SHOULD also sign requests" with Web Bot Auth so a site's bot protection can confirm who runs the agent, which helps only once agents and sites both adopt it.
So this month, test your quote and booking forms the way an agent would: with a browser agent such as Gemini in Chrome auto browse, or by having someone try from a different network. A blocked or low-score submission should show a visible error with your phone number and land in a queue someone reviews. Keep the spam protection, and ask your web vendor what it does with traffic it scores as automated. Can AI Agents Book Appointments From Your Website? covers the rest of the form fixes.
Booking link
In the same Baseline window, 29.3% of US Google AI Mode answers linked a booking or scheduling page, most often on Housecall Pro. In our weekly scans of competitor listings in Google's local map results, 9.4% showed a booking link, and that's a floor, since our scans can miss one. This month, put each location's own booking page, from the scheduler you already run, on the website and that location's Business Profile, so people or agents can book without calling.
Why your scheduler decides, and three questions to send it
At least 12.0% of the readable contractor homepages, about 1 in 8, loaded a scheduler or online request form. The discovery file sits at a fixed path on a domain, so if your scheduler hosts the booking page on its own domain, the protocol file and the permissions behind it may be the vendor's to publish. A file on your marketing site wouldn't settle who controls the booking system. We didn't check whose booking pages sit on a vendor's domain, but the chance that yours does is why the first conversation belongs with the vendor you already pay.
We found no announcement of Personal Agent Protocol support from ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro or Jobber as of Nov. 1. This quarter, send your scheduling vendor these questions in writing:
- Is support for the Personal Agent Protocol, or any agent protocol, on a dated roadmap? For booking pages on your domain, whose discovery file would an agent read, yours or ours?
- Can we let an agent read availability and service area without letting it create a job, and will agent-made bookings carry a tag in the job record?
- How many sessions or requests on our booking pages came from agents last month, by location, and what did your form protection do with them?
The second question maps onto the spec's own access levels: in the home page's fictional hotel, any agent can search rooms, but booking one needs the user's approval. Ask again each quarter. A PE platform can send the three once per vendor, covering every portfolio company that runs it, and file the answers by company.
When to build a connector
Build when you can name the useful task and connect it to the system that runs the branch. Checking service coverage, returning available windows and creating a confirmed appointment request are concrete starting points. A supported scheduler integration can provide the route; a custom connector needs an owner for permissions, changes and failure handling.
Start that planning now. Ask the scheduling vendor for its supported agent paths, choose one customer workflow and define what successful completion looks like in the office. Keep the current draft version explicit if you prototype the Personal Agent Protocol, because its interfaces can still change.
Bring leadership both pieces: the phone, form and booking checks that improve the branch today, and a scoped integration plan for what comes next. For a brand building its own agent on top of its scheduler and CRM, letting AI book appointments without duplicate CRM updates covers the execution details.

Method
On Nov. 1, 2026, Cheers read the homepages of 1,096 US home-service contractor websites from Google's local map results, minus Cheers customers; 976 were readable as served (06:57 to 07:00 UTC). The sites and the 15,795 competitor listings (Sept. 28 to Oct. 31, 2026) come from our weekly scans of those results in markets where 10 Cheers home-service customers operate, so they aren't a national random sample, and some listings aren't home-service businesses.
Between 10:13 and 10:17 UTC we asked every site for /.well-known/poppy.json, /.well-known/mcp.json and the MCP server card path as a desktop browser; 915 gave a clear protocol-file answer and 181 didn't. For mcp.json, 152 sites gave no clear answer in this read or the 06:57 crawl, and none served the file. A 10:24 UTC re-read with a Cheers user agent got 824 clear answers and no file. A 404 or ordinary page counts as clear; a block, error or timeout counts as unknown.
We read raw homepage HTML without running JavaScript, so presence rates are floors and inner pages aren't counted, and the CAPTCHA figures use the 922 homepages that answered a 12:54 UTC re-fetch. A script loaded on 133 of the 430 with a form, but finding one doesn't show whether a person or agent could get a submission through.
The ChatGPT and AI Mode figures come from the Cheers Market Baseline, our research panel: 6,307 US answers per engine, Oct. 9 to 31, 2026. They show what answers contained, not calls placed or jobs booked.
